Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma is a disease that damages your optic nerve. It usually happens when fluid builds up in the front part of your eye. That extra fluid increases the intraocular pressure in your eye, damaging the optic nerve. The optic nerve is connected to the retina — a layer of light-sensitive tissue lining the inside of the eye — and is made up of many nerve fibers, like an electric cable is made up of many wires.

The optic nerve sends signals from your retina to your brain, where these signals are interpreted as the images you see.

Common Cataract Symptoms

Blurred or cloudy vision
Sensitivity to bright light
Difficulty seeing at night
Halos around lights

Glaucoma Management

Medical Management

Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG) is usually a slowly progressive disease. Medical treatment mainly focuses on reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) through prescription eye drops and modern medications. Early diagnosis with advanced diagnostic tools helps in better management and control of glaucoma progression.

Surgical Management

When medications are not sufficient to control eye pressure, surgery may be recommended. Surgical procedures aim to reduce the production of fluid inside the eye or improve the drainage of fluid. Modern treatment options include laser procedures and advanced surgical techniques to help protect vision and control glaucoma effectively.
